Scores of experts, researchers and industry professionals from around the world attended the opening session of the Seventh International Conference on Software Methodologies, Tools and Techniques (SOMET 2008) held at American University of Sharjah (AUS) today, Wednesday 15. The international conference, whose prior venues include Paris, Stockholm, Leipzig, Tokyo, Quebec, Canada and Rome, will run through October 17. Renowned experts from various countries including Canada, United States, Norway, Germany, Russia, South Africa, Australia and Japan will present technical papers at the event. Apart from the visiting delegates and participants, the opening session was attended by Dr. John Alvin Mosbo, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs; Dr. Yousuf Al Assaf, the Dean of the College of Engineering; and Dr. Imran Zualkernan, General Co-Chair of the conference and Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at AUS; as well as senior university officials, faculty members and students. The conference will focus on exploring innovations, controversies and challenges facing the software engineering community today. It will aim to bring together theory and experience, and propose and evaluate solutions to software engineering problems. The event will also provide a forum and an opportunity to assess the current state-of-the-art technology in software engineering and to chart future directions for the software engineering community. "This conference is another example of AUS showing thought leadership in information technology," said Dr. Zualkernan. According to Dr. Al Assaf, the conference coincided perfectly with the launch of several research-oriented master’s degree programs at AUS. The conference will also hold two free workshops. The first workshop will present state-of-the-art software engineering practices in Japan. While the second workshop, entitled "Cyber Security against Campus Threats," will be conducted by Hosting Data Fort, a subsidiary TECOM Investments. |
