Effective communication and collaboration, efficient financial management, systems supporting increased levels of transparency, advanced e-services, risk management and putting in place business continuity plans are some of the key focus areas for IT investments for government departments, according to Yasser Zeineldin, CEO at eHosting DataFort (eHDF). Zeineldin’s comments came during his presentation at ‘IT for Government 2011’ held in Dubai on 4-5 October at Dusit Thani hotel. The event gathered experts and policy makers from public sector departments to discuss IT-related strategies and methodologies, particularly those that can transform the way government organizations function today. Speaking on ‘From Managed Services to the Cloud’ at the two-day conference, Zeineldin said: “Governments are focusing on strategic priorities such as improving education, healthcare, and providing advanced services to its citizens. Hence they need to relieve themselves from performing mundane operational activities such as keeping their IT systems up and running. By adopting a Managed services model, governments can achieve efficiencies by reducing both the capital expenditure and operational costs and can thereby re-invest the savings in new initiatives and value added services.” Outlining eHDF’s successful track record of providing managed services to the government sector, Zeineldin said that cloud computing is the natural evolution of the Managed Services model.
